Our Beginnings

Founded in 1961, Hub Fins was Mississippi’s first competitive swim club, created by dedicated parents, swimmers, and coaches. The team operated as a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization until 2005, when it became part of The Family YMCA of Southeast Mississippi. In August 2022, Hub Fins returned to its parent-led structure while continuing to train at the YMCA.

The team’s name, "Hub Fins," honors Hattiesburg’s history as a major transportation hub. From its early days at the University of Southern Mississippi Natatorium to today, Hub Fins has remained committed to developing and training Pine Belt youth in competitive swimming.

Through the years, Hub Fins has been led by outstanding head coaches, including Dan Pappas, Coco Sutherland, Warren Holladay, Harvey Poole, Jimmy Roberts, Michael McNally, Rick Whitson, Bob Shearer, Randy Simon, Steve Panzram, Corey Coon-Cassily, Addy Panzram, and our current head coach, Tish Line.
